Estepona Investment Property

Is Estepona a good place to invest?

Estepona is one of the Costa del Sol’s towns that has managed to successfully hold on to its Spanish charm. The area’s traditional Andalusian architecture meshes beautifully with the home comforts of an international crowd, and benefits from a status that perhaps no other resort on the Costa del Sol can stake a claim to – the perfect blend of modern and traditional.

The town and surrounding areas have been a favourite amongst holidaymakers and those buying holiday homes for decades now. So, it’s no surprise that its mix of sunshine, gastronomy, culture and picturesque beaches led to Estepona being declared a Tourism Municipality by the Junta de Andalucia in 2020.

With such a strong status, we’re here to ask: is Estepona a good place to invest in 2023? Well, let us tell you why this area should have your full attention!

Year-round tourism

Estepona is one of the very few locations in Spain that benefits from a 12-month tourism season, making it a wise investment if you’re looking for a rental income. The mild year-round climate, as well as the Costa del Sol holding the status of top European golf and golfing holiday destination, means that regardless of whether it’s off-season elsewhere, Estepona is always thriving. There’s no shortage of tourists looking for accommodation at any time of the year!

Affordability and value for money

When you compare the price of properties in nearby Marbella, or any of the other key destinations on the Costa del Sol, Estepona offers a cheaper selection of properties. In much of Estepona’s town and in the surrounding areas, you’ll find a wide range of homes to choose from, including new builds, luxury villas, traditional and modern apartments, penthouses and townhouses and off-plan developments. The right property for you and your needs is just waiting to be discovered!

Investment in Estepona

The Estepona Ayuntamiento (local council) and its mayor José María García Urbano, has invested heavily in regenerating and improving the town and the wider municipality, for both residents and holidaymakers over the years. Improvements to infrastructure, a new sports stadium, hospital, theatre, pedestrianised promenade, parks and more have cementing its status as one of the most popular places to live on the Costa del Sol. Regeneration projects are still ongoing too, so you can be sure that your investment in Estepona will remain strong for years to come.

Traditional Spanish roots

As we mentioned before, Estepona’s ability to hold on to its Spanish and Andalusian influences is what makes this town such a fantastic area to invest. Unlike other bigger resorts on the Costa del Sol, Estepona’s Old Town area stands proud amongst the rapidly changing landscape of the Costa del Sol. The offers tourists something a much more authentically Spanish experience, something that the larger resorts are lacking.

Easy European & international travel

Malaga Airport is 50 minutes from Estepona by car, offering a range of flights within Europe and the EU, as well as international destinations around the world. Almost all the low-cost carriers fly into Malaga Airport, including Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2, Wizz Air and many more, offering a very frequent and varied selection of flight times and routes. There are also regular bus services running to and from Malaga Airport to Estepona, making transfers easy and cost-effective. Gibraltar airport is also only 50 minute drive away, with flights to and from London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Bristol and Manchester in the UK.

Solid opportunities for rental income

There are more holiday rentals than long term rentals in Estepona, meaning that there is ample opportunity to earn a good rental income in the area. Estepona’s robust tourist market sees a steady stream of visitors all year round, so finding occupants for your property won’t be an issue. During the peak season, the earning potential of a holiday rental increases significantly, meaning you can generate much more than both your mortgage and running costs in the space of just one week in the summer season!
